Equivalent Fractions and Punctuation

On Wednesday, we were all given 20 smarties and we sorted them into colours.
For example,
5/20 = Red
4/20 = Yellow
2/20 = Pink

Then we looked at how we could simplify these fractions using our knowledge of equivalent fractions.

As a challenge, we had to convert these simplified fractions into decimals!

On Friday, we were given the challenge to develop our knowledge of punctuation or else we would never get our iPads back! There were lots of different stations where we could practice different pieces of punctuation. Here were our challenges:
Red - full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks and question marks.
Amber - ellipsis and inverted commas.
Green - adding extra information using commas, brackets and dashes.
Blue - using semi colons.

After we had practiced a variety of different pieces of punctuation, we were able to apply this knowledge to our letter, editing it on a big piece of sugar paper.

Why is it important to warm up?

This afternoon we learnt the importance of warming up. After this, to ensure the whole school was warming up properly, we decided to create our own games which we could share with all the teachers in school. We had to make sure it warmed up our whole body, it was a quick 5-10 minute activity and it was fast-paced enough to increase our heart rate. After we shared our games with the whole class we were given some great peer critique which helped us to make some small changes to our games. Here are some of the pictures of our games:

Letter planning

Today, we begun to plan our letters. We researched the business we'd like to write the letter to. Then we used their website to find their address. After that, we used the rubric to plan the structure of our letter and looked back through our books and made notes of words, phrases and sentences we wanted to remember to use in our letter. We will begin writing these tomorrow so keep an eye out on Blogger, Twitter and Pobble for our amazing writing!

Finding emotive language

This weel we've been developing skills to enhance our persuasive letters. Today we were searching for different adjectives to make our writing more emotive. Some of the sentences we came up with included:

Why would you not want to help these poor, innocent children?
Imagine the pride you would feel if you helped support such an inspiring project.
Thank you for kindly giving up your precious time to read this letter.

Debate - Would you like to be Joe in 'Billionaire Boy'?

Today, after reading the first two chapters of our new novel study book, 'Billionaire Boy' we debated whether we'd like to be Joe or not. Joe is a boy who has millions of money and every item you could ever think of including his own race car and track in his garden. However, something he wants more than anything is a friend to share all of his toys with (he has none!) We debated whether we would like to be him, and thought up some suggestions to help him make friends once he moves schools.

PE - Hockey

Today we had our first PE lesson of the year. We are focusing on hockey this term and today we learned the three passes we could use. These included: a push pass, a slap and a hit. We also learnt about the dangers in sport and discussed how we can ensure we are being safe during our PE lessons, especially hockey. Here are some pictures from our lesson today:

Project Launch

Here are some pictures of us researching our essential question, 'How can fun enhance a friendship?'

We had an incredible time and we really did create new and enhance our current friendships.
