On Friday, Liz (who is a qualified Yoga instructor) came in to visit class 7 and to deliver an interesting Yoga session. After learning the neat and tidy pose, class 7 then got to warm up Yoga style, and stretched every muscle imaginable. Once warm, the students got to release some energy with a game of what’s the time Mr Wolf. Once finished, class 7 warmed down using several stretches and then got to have a little rest whilst the butterfly came (held by Liz) to help the students relax.

Dog's trust workshop
Today, Sarah and Lyra (the dog) came into class 7 to do two things; teach class 7 about how to be comfortable and safe around dogs, and in Lyra’s case, to show-off her amazing tricks! Sarah explained about the different things we can and cannot do with dogs, for example what not to feed her, and to allow the dog to sniff you before you stroke them. Then Lyra took centre stage and show class 7 some mind-blowing tricks – but only to get the delicious snack as a treat. Class 7 really engaged with the workshop, and learnt so much about being with dogs.

Parts of a sentence
Today we were learning about different parts of sentences. The vocabulary we were using included main clauses, phrases, subordinate clauses, subordinating and co ordinating conjunctions. We looked at how parts of a sentence could be added together to create different types of sentences too.
We found out about the following sentence types:
- Simple sentence
- Compound sentence
- Complex sentence
After playing some games and complete some challenges, we had a go at answering a few of the Y6 SATs SPAG questions. We were shocked at how good we were at answering these questions and we were actually EXCITED for our SATs in 2 years time!

Which material is the best at muffling sound?
During this lesson we create an experiment to find out which material was the best at muffling sound. We chose a tube, then a material and put the material in the tube. After that, we spoke at a normal talking level through the tube and rated the material based on how good it was at muffling. To keep it a fair test, we kept the tube the tube the same, spoke at the same volume each time and used the same size piece of material each time.
As an extra challenge, we then changed the tube and carried out the test again. it was interesting to see how the results differed! Look in our books to read the results and conclusions.

Imagery in a rap
This afternoon we looked at how imagery is used in rap songs to convey a theme. We discuss some different themes and looked at how imagery was used in these songs to convey a meaning. We then worked in pairs to write some of our own lyrics, using imagery, focusing on one theme at a time. Some of the themes included: friendship, heartbreak, sadness, positivity etc.
After we had written them, we stuck them all onto the wall for others to use when we come to write our showcase raps this week.

Science Week!
This afternoon we spent the whole afternoon in the heart working with Class 8. There were 4 different experiments:
- create a wind instrument using straws
- create a guitar using boxes and elastic bands
- What moves faster, light or sound?
During this experiment we filled a balloon full of flour. We then popped the balloon and look at whether the flour hit the ground first, or whether we heard the sound first. We realised that light moves faster than sound as we saw the flour before we heard the sounds.
- Can you prove that vibrations exist?
Maths challenge!
This morning we were set a challenge by a yoga instructor. She brought in some work for us to complete and said it would give us a clue to a treat we have earned. We had no idea what she was on about but we began to complete the work. We couldn't believe it when the translations started spelling out letters. At the end of the lesson we put the letters together and it spelt out:
Because we got the clue, we were given a letter from the yoga lady who explained she would come in in a few weeks time to give us a yoga lesson - we can't wait!

Nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives and determiners.
Today we were looking at different words types. We begun the lesson by watching some GIFs and thinking of nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives to describe what we could see. After that, we wrote short sentences using this vocabulary. Finally, we used thesaurus' to up level these sentences, and created a bank of new vocabulary we could use in our writing.

Story writing
We are finally writing the final drafts of our poems, typing them up on macs and iPads. We need to type them so they can be sent to the publisher next week. In order to ensure they were publisher ready, we worked in pairs with one person reading the final draft and one person typing. The whole class showed fantastic collaboration skills.
