Times table afternoon

Due to the fact we are learning all about how to use grid method to help us multiply, we decided it would be a good idea to practice our times tables. We have a variety of different games and activities including venn diagrams and dominoes which gave us the opportunity to practice times tables we were less confident at using, in particular our 6s, 7s and 8s.

Circuit Training

We have been continuing our circuit training this week and made the most of the beautiful weather by going out onto the field and playing some feel good tunes! We practiced squats, press ups, sit ups, lunges and many more. Most people were able to improve their personal bests already as well.

Soldier Visit

This week we were very lucky to have another visit from the army officers from the Armed Forces Careers Office in Lincoln. We prepared lots of questions beforehand and decided on one in particular to ask Mick Speight.

We learnt a lot about the experiences the army face on a day-to-day basis from soldiers who had experienced it first hand which was amazing. We were all completely stunned and kept coming up with even more questions to ask.

Tomorrow's surprise...

The ipads are missing...
There's a chest in the middle of the room...
And tags hanging from the ceiling with keys connected to them...

...what is going on?!

Come back tomorrow to find out!

Our first mini outcome

Our first mini outcome this term is to create a poppy wave, like the one feature below which was built at Lincoln Castle this summer.

We have already done lots of research into who created the ceramic poppies at the castle and we found out it was Paul Cummins and Tom Piper.

On Wednesday, we looked at lots of different photos of poppies and decided on our success criteria for our own designs. After that, we created a variety of different designs, chose the best to draw and colour on card and then got our friends to critique them. Next we will be redrafting them before having a go at making them using a variety of different materials and media.

Keep checking our blog to see how we are getting on with them!

What makes an army recruit?

We have been continuing our research into what makes an army recruit today as we begun to delve deeper into the background behind the army.

We have been researching questions such as:
- When was the army formed?
- Are there different roles in the army?
- What previous battles/wars have the British Army been involved in?

We have developed A LOT of new questions that we have after finding out these answers, in particular - what started the world wars? This is something we will be learning about next week however for now, we have been enjoying watching the Horrible Histories WW1 short stories on YouTube.

Army soldier training

Today we took part in out first army soldier PE lesson which included taking part in a variety of different training drills.

We challenged ourselves to see how many press ups, sit ups, star jumps etc. we could complete in one minute. These are our current personal bests and we are aiming to beat these every week! Here are some pictures of our session, you can see the pure determination in our faces!

Monday - what a fantastic day!

After a week of settling in last week, today was the first proper day of learning again and Miss McMunn was blown away!

We began the day with a launchpad in Maths where we had to show Miss McMunn our knowledge of addition and subtract without any help from teachers or friends in our class. We do this so Miss McMunn can see what we already know and where we need to go next.

After that, we went to City School for our first swimming lesson of the year. We were assessed and put into groups with people who were of a similar level of confidence in the pool. Then we began to look at specific skills which would help us to all become confident swimmers.

This afternoon we had a writing launchpad. Our first writing genre is letter writing because we would love the Army Careers office (who ran our project launch) to come and help us with the rest of our topic. We thought the best way to convince them would be to write a persuasive letter to them. After today's lesson we will look at different exemplars and create a rubric, refine a variety of skills from the rubric and finally write, critique and redraft our letters multiple times before sending to the careers office.

We are looking forward to tomorrow where we are all going to be given different job roles from the army!

Keep checking back here for more information!

We were extremely lucky to have a visit from the Lincoln Careers Office army men. They set us four different challenges where we had to collaborate to solve problems. Here are some pictures from our time:

Welcome back!

Welcome to Class 7's blog
This term we are trying to answer the question: 'What empowers recruits to 'be the best'?'
We will be working in partnership with the Lincoln Recruitment Centre in order to answer the question and hold an Armed Forces Incite Day which will be open to the public.

Here are a few pictures from our classroom:
